Food Academy Programme 2016

The aim of this programme is to provide food businesses with the management, leadership skills and business knowledge to achieve sustainability and growth in their business.

 

The programme will help owners/managers of food businesses:-

  • Improve and develop their product range.
  • To effectively address their business challenges through mentoring.
  • To gain a greater understanding of Business Management and Development, Creating and Sustaining Competitive Advantage, Marketing, Legislation for Food Businesses, Food Equipment and Manufacturing, Sales and Distribution.
  • Acquire knowledge on how to develop their business in a structured and logical manner appropriate to their business needs.

 

Programme Objective

 

It is intended that this programme will impact on the business results, for example, introduction of new products, securing new routes to market, improving profit margins,

 

It is intended that participants would achieve the following objectives: -

 

  • Develop a strategy and plan for the business.
  • Learn how to use a practical set of tools and templates to improve each aspect of their food business
  • Develop an understanding of the fundamentals and principles of food marketing
  • Utilise research to innovate and develop new customer centred products where there is a genuine gap in the market
  • Learn how to cost a product and develop profit generating products
  • Learn how to sell and to generate sales
  • Develop the owner/manager in a business context

 

Programme Deliverables

 

After this programme the participant will:-

 

  • Have a clear direction and plan for the future
  • Have greater knowledge of consumers and markets for food products including farmers markets, speciality retailers, supermarkets, food service, wholesalers and food catering groups.
  • Understand the process for evaluating a new product ideas and assessing the market for the proposed products
  • Have a practical set of tools and templates to improve each aspect of the business
  • Be familiar with the regulatory requirements of food businesses in Ireland
  • Be able to analyse the company’s performance
  • Have the ability to sell and anticipate the buyer needs
  • Manage the business confidently
  • Have improved management and leadership skills

 

Screening        All applicants will be screened for suitability.

 

Timing             March – August 2016

 

Workshops       8 half day workshops

 

Mentoring        One to one mentoring with the Programme Trainers

3 mentoring sessions with each company
