The CommBeBiz annual meeting was held in London this year, with over 100 people from across Europe in attendance. Taste Of Science & Design4SMEs were represented by the Irish project partners from the Institute of Technology Tralee at this 2-day event.

The European Business Network (EBN) held a workshop on day 1, giving in-depth information regarding the SME Instrument, IP and Finance. The next session involved a welcome from CommBeBiz project coordinator Rhonda Smith in the UK Parliamentary Offices, where speakers included Kit Malthouse MP & Stephen Metcalfe MP who teased out the implications of Brexit on EU & UK research collaborations. Later on day 1 with a return to the Institute of Materials a ‘Twilight Workshop’ was held around the topic of social media as a communication tool for scientists and researchers.

Day 2 opened with Phillip Lymbery’s video contribution titled Farmageddon and then moved on to session 2 in which groups formed around experts in areas such as the SME Instrument, IP, Business Plan Development, Free Advice for Bioeconomy Projects & Responsible Research. Following on from this, a selection of ideas were pitched to a panel of experts for feedback and after lunch Tim Benton, Professor of Population Ecology & former UK Champion for Global Food Security spoke on the Bioeconomy & Sustainability.
